There are a huge range of special tiles available including Designer Tiles, Architects Tiles, Mirror Tiles, Mosaic Tiles, Carpet Tiles, Natural Tiles and Quarry and Victorian Tiles.
A special tile can give a very different feel to your home, and can often leave an extra touch of class.
Some of these make great tiles for living areas, or alternatively as kitchen tiles, bathroom tiles or tiles for outdoor areas. Special tiles are available as floor tiles, wall tiles and border tiles, and in a range of materials and therefore include Ceramic Tiles, Porcelain Tiles, and tiles made of very special materials such as glass, glitter and metal.
Natural Tiles can be one of the most expensive tile options, but can provide a very exclusive look, which is extremely hardwearing. Different types of natural tile include marble, travertine tiles, stone tiles, granite tiles, slate and onyx tiles.
Natural tiles can be very durable, but due to their natural nature, can be cold to the touch, and stain easily if left unprotected. Some natural tiles, such as marble, can be corroded by common household acids such as vinegar and lemon juice.
When ordering tiles it is always recommended that you order all the tiles you need, including an additional number of extra tiles, from the same batch. This is to make sure that any colour variations are minimised – This is particularly important when ordering a natural tile, as the variation between batches can be quite significant.
Often there is more than one option, one of which is more cost effective than the other. For example, you can get mosaic tiles and you can get mosaic effect tiles, where the tile itself is large, but appears to be made up of individual mosaic tiles. You can get actual metal tiles, or alternatively look out for metallic effect tiles. And don’t forget limestone effect tiles and marble effect tiles, both of which can be more cost effective than the genuine article.
